There are 121 species of
birds including the bald eagle. This area of the Upper Kennebec River
is also the only river in the United States where 5 species of cold
water game fish can be found: brook, brown and rainbow trout plus
landlocked salmon and lake togue.
Canoeing quiet ponds to
shooting class V rapids on a raft or a kayak is also available.
Whitewater canoeing championships have been held here and winter
activities include miles of groomed trails with connecting trails into
Canada plus ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and
downhill skiing. Less than an hour away are several golf courses.
